What We Do

We work to improve the quality of patient care and narrow the gaps and disparities of heart disease and stroke care by converting scientific research into treatment guidelines. These evidence-based guidelines are the cornerstone of our quality initiatives that provide tools and resources to help healthcare providers consistently follow these guidelines. Our quality initiatives also play an essential role in developing guidelines of the future. Quality modules function as registries, tracking, and measuring patient treatment and outcomes. That information is collected into vast databases from which new research findings make major contributions to the future of heart disease and stroke care. The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association recognizes hospitals for their success in using our programs to improve the quality of care for heart disease and stroke patients through a national awards program.

Research shows that when medical professionals apply the most up-to-date, evidenced-based treatment guidelines, patient outcomes improve. Our comprehensive suite of quality programs helps translate our guidelines and statements into programs that healthcare providers implement to reduce the devastation of heart disease and stroke.
