Tobacco-Free Schools

A supportive approach to address E-Cigarette use in schools.

Thanks for joining us on this mission to be a relentless force for a world of longer healthier lives! According to the CDC, the most effective approaches to help students quit tobacco use are through counseling and education. Working with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation and supported by CVS Health, we’ve created model tobacco policies and administrative guidance to support school districts in creating and sustaining 100% tobacco-free school environments.

Administrators

This model language prohibits use of ALL tobacco products while on school property and at school-sponsored events as well as prohibits tobacco industry promotional activities. It also reflects a supportive approach to discipline for students and ensures students interested in quitting are referred to cessation programming.

Parents

One in 4 high school students are vaping and the number of teens who vape more than doubled in the past two years. We’re working with students to educate them on the dangers of e-cigarettes, with parents to prepare them with tools and resources for talking with their kids and with school administrators to implement effective and comprehensive tobacco prevention policies.

Students

Half of all students who use e‑cigarettes report wanting to quit. We’re working with schools and parents to implement policies that avoid discipline and focus on support. Join us in creating a future where tobacco and nicotine addiction are a thing of the past.

Youth and Tobacco: A New Crisis

The tobacco endgame – the path to ending tobacco use and nicotine addiction in the U.S. – is within sight. This could save millions of lives.

But e-cigarettes and other products like cigarillos, hookah and smokeless tobacco pose a significant threat. They are gaining popularity, especially with kids and young adults.
