Helping your community by...

Teaching local students to save lives

When CPR is preformed properly and promptly during cardiac arrest, survival rates can double or triple. We advocated to make this lifesaving training part of the health curriculum for all Michigan students, and beginning in 2017 will train more than 100,000 students in Hands-Only CPR each year. By filling our community with individuals equipped to take action, we are helping to improve survival odds for everyone in Grand Rapids. Find a CPR Class Near You

Helping communities breathe easier

Tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of death in the U.S. and a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease – the nation’s no. 1 killer. In Grand Rapids we’ve worked hard to protect residents from the devastating effects of secondhand smoke by advocating for clean indoor air in workplaces, bars and restaurants. By supporting policies and laws that regulate and reduce tobacco use, especially among youth, and protect non-smokers from exposure, we’re helping West Michigan breathe easier. Giving every child a chance to grow up healthy

Identifying congenital heart defects early and teaching healthy habits at a young age can help our children to lead healthier, longer lives as they grow. From supporting laws that ensure all Michigan newborns are screened for potentially life-threatening congenital heart defects, to educating kids within our local schools about the importance of nutrition and physical activity, we are working to protect the heart of even the youngest members of our community. Funding research to improve prevention and treatment

Groundbreaking research is vital to improving local patient outcomes, and every local heart and stroke patient benefits from research we fund. By driving scientific breakthroughs and creating guidelines for care that reflect the latest proven research findings, we improve the way that local hospitals prevent, treat and help patients recover from heart disease and stroke.
