Dr. Azhar received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Virginia Commonwealth University.  He completed his residency in neurology at Mount Sinai Medical Center (New York City), followed by a two-year fellowship at NIH focusing on stroke.  Board-certified in neurology and vascular neurology he serves as an investigator in multiple clinical trials in acute stroke and stroke recovery. He is also a member of the New York Department of Health Stroke Advisory Group and the New York American Heart Association Stroke Task Force.
