I am … a Survivor.
I travelled to Illinois from Southern California in late October 2015 for my 40th HS Reunion. I’d been going home(Illinois) pretty regularly for years, but hadn’t been home for 2+ years so I was super excited. I shared a room with a friend from high school at all the hotel where the reunion was being held. I’d rented a car for the week. This was going to be a FUN TRIP. I’d visited my mom &brother earlier in the day and had returned to the hotel to change and go to the party. I went to the party, saw a lot of classmates from Kindergarten to high school. I was following my Doctor’s instructions of not over-exerting myself. Due to previous chemo, I was having pain in my heart. High blood pressure too. I wanted to step away from the party to get some air and invited my cousin to go with me to my room. The next thing I knew, I was in the hospital and was told I’d had a stroke. My God. I ordinary would have just slipped away from the party alone. This time my cousin was with me and knew exactly what to do. I went to Illinois for 5 days in October 2015. And didn’t return to my home in California until August 2016. I was in Illinois for TEN MONTHS being cared for by my brother and his wife. There’s so much more to my story. While in therapy (occupational, physical, speech), I was found to have a third recurrence of Breast Cancer and needed 4 rounds of chemo. And I also had a defibrillator put in. I’m in California now Of course following the stroke, you’re not allowed to drive until you have an evaluation. So I Uber everywhere. My car fell into disrepair while I was gone. I’m trying to put the pieces back together. I don’t remember what happened. I will have to ask my cousin.
