Stroke is the leading cause of long term adult disability. Each year in the United States about 610,000 people experience their first stroke and 185,000 people have a recurrent stroke affecting approximately 795,000 people each year in the United States. Two-thirds of stroke survivors struggle with moderate to severe disability.
Goals and Learning Objectives
The goal of the Post-Stroke Spasticity: A Case-Based Series Stroke Clinical Updates activity is to increase clinician knowledge, diagnosis, and treatment of post-stroke spasticity.
As a result of this activity, the participant should be better able to:
- Discuss the functional impact of post-stroke spasticity on recovery and rehabilitation
- Apply evidence-based knowledge to diagnose and assess post-stroke spasticity
- Identify evidence-based management strategies for post-stroke spasticity
- Describe how to incorporate new knowledge and expertise around diagnosis and management of post-stroke spasticity into their respective clinical practice
The target audience for this series is designed for rehabilitation physicians and nurses, rehabilitation therapists including occupational and physical therapists, hospitalists, stroke coordinators, residents and medical students. It may also include other stroke team members such as neurologists and neurosurgeons.
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of Medical Education Resources (MER) and National Stroke Association. MER is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
