Below is a comprehensive and up-to-date list of stroke education opportunities currently available from National Stroke Association. Some educational activities are available only to members of National Stroke Association’s Stroke Center Network (SCN) and/or Stroke Rehabilitation and Recovery Network (SRN). The recordings of all The Business of Stroke webinars can be viewed at www.stroke.org/business.   • Stroke Nurse Education Modules, available now for all audiences (SCN members receive first 30 module uses for free followed by unlimited access for $10 each, SRN members receive unlimited access for $10 per module, Professional Society members receive discounted access for $15 per module).
    These accredited online modules are ideal for those new to stroke as well as seasoned stroke care providers committed to keeping their stroke knowledge and practice up-to-date. Ten modules are available at www.stroke.org/strokenurse. Contact your organization’s SCN primary contact for your registration code. Each module is accredited for 1.5 Continuing Education contact hours.


  • Stroke Rapid Response Online, available now, $20 for all audiences.
    This online program — now available at www.stroke.org/srronline — educates emergency medical technicians, paramedics, first responders and dispatchers important information about their invaluable roles in stroke treatment and outcomes. Accredited for .2 CEUs. (Stroke Rapid Response Online is free for SCN members — contact Jill Thiare at jthiare@stroke.org for information.)


  • NIHSS Training and Testing, available now, FREE to all audiences.
    Support your stroke team and other hospital staff to become proficient at administering the NIHSS using the most user-friendly online training and testing system available. Go to www.stroke.org/nihss for training, testing, instant test results, CEUs and a certificate of completion.

  • NEW! Swallow Screening, Performance Improvement and Stroke in the Great Lakes Region ,Webinar program now available. This program is, FREE to National Stroke Association’s professional members only. Contact Linda Kuhrt at lkuhrt@stroke.org about becoming a member.
    Representatives from the Great Lakes Regional Stroke Network’s dysphagia work group share key learnings about: components of a swallow screen, literature findings, the difference between a swallow screen and a swallow assessment, future directions of swallow screening in the stroke patient, feedback from The Joint Commission, and follow-up evaluation results. Two new tools are presented: a swallow screen checklist which will enable you to check your swallow screen tool against best practices identified in the literature and a second checklist to assess your swallow screen process. SATELLITE SYMPOSIA ARCHIVE

  • The Stroke Circle: Treatment of Acute Ischemic Stroke: Expanding Optimal Care, available now, FREE to all audiences through August 2010.
    Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is a medical emergency that requires timely and appropriate therapy. Prudent use of IV rt-PA according to established guidelines can effectively improve long-term outcomes and reduce disability in AIS patients. This webcast will review current treatment information and discuss new insights and experiences in particular settings where clinical guideline recommendations are not available and the anticipated benefits of IV rt-PA have to be weighed against the risk of harm. The faculty, featuring Gregory Albers, MD, James Grotta, MD, and Wade Smith, MD, PhD, will also discuss telemedicine as a strategy to extend AIS treatment to underserved areas, as well as current clinical trials that should contribute to the body of knowledge related to appropriate AIS treatment, the role of thrombolysis, and new treatment paradigms.
