LIVE INTRACRANIAL STENOSIS DINNER SERIES PROGRAM
- Treatment of Symptomatic Intracranial Atherosclerotic Disease, FREE to all audiences beginning in late Fall 2009. NOTE: this program is not available as an online program.
This LIVE Dinner Series program explores how to identify and treat intracranial stenosis through evidence-based options, including medical management, interventional procedures and aggressive risk factor management, the relationship between intracranial stenosis and stroke risk, the latest medical and endovascular literature and in-depth discussion of the NIH-funded randomized trial SAMMPRIS (Stenting vs. Aggressive Medical Management for Preventing Recurrent Stroke in Intracranial Stenosis), which compares stenting to medical therapy. This program targets neurologists, interventionalists, emergency room physicians, primary care physicians and internal medicine physicians. These accredited online modules are ideal for those new to stroke as well as seasoned stroke care providers committed to keeping their stroke knowledge and practice up-to-date. Each module is accredited for 1.5 Continuing Education contact hours.

This online program — now available at www.stroke.org/srronline — educates emergency medical technicians, paramedics, first responders and dispatchers important information about their invaluable roles in stroke treatment and outcomes. - NIHSS Training and Testing, available now, FREE to all audiences.

- Hemorrhage in Acute Stroke, available now, FREE to all audiences through February 2010.
Recent advances in the understanding of the pathophysiology of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) have suggested that significant neurological damage occurs after the initial ICH event. This web-based, interactive program describes best practices for treating ICH, based on the new “Guidelines for the Management of Spontaneous Intracerebral Hemorrhage in Adults”. - The Stroke Circle: Treatment of Acute Ischemic Stroke: Expanding Optimal Care, available now, FREE to all audiences through August 2010.
Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is a medical emergency that requires timely and appropriate therapy. Prudent use of IV rt-PA according to established guidelines can effectively improve long-term outcomes and reduce disability in AIS patients. This webcast will review current treatment information and discuss new insights and experiences in particular settings where clinical guideline recommendations are not available and the anticipated benefits of IV rt-PA have to be weighed against the risk of harm. The faculty, featuring Gregory Albers, MD, James Grotta, MD, and Wade Smith, MD, PhD, will also discuss telemedicine as a strategy to extend AIS treatment to underserved areas, as well as current clinical trials that should contribute to the body of knowledge related to appropriate AIS treatment, the role of thrombolysis, and new treatment paradigms.
