The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) has many excellent free stroke educational materials and resources to assist you with creating public education campaigns to build awareness of the symptoms of stroke and the need to act quickly.

NINDS offers you the following stroke resources:

A wide variety of informative brochures and booklets covering such topics as stroke symptoms, risk factors, treatment, prevention, research and rehabilitation.  We have a brochure which addresses the special concerns of African Americans and some Spanish translations for Hispanics.

  • The NINDS Know Stroke Community Education Kit: contains everything needed for planning and conducting a stroke education event.  Included is a facilitator’s guide with step-by-step training on how to host a stroke awareness event; brochures in Spanish and English, and an award-winning 8-minute videotape featuring interviews with medical experts and stroke patients.  So that we can continue to provide this valuable resource there is a nominal charge of $10 for the kit.

  • Spanish video, Ataque cerebral:  Conozca los síntomas y actúe a tiempo (Stroke: know the signs and act in time) which provides information about stroke prevention and treatment through the compelling, real-life stories of three Hispanic stroke survivors, supported with commentary by a stroke neurologist from NINDS.

  • Wallet card:  provides stroke symptoms and a place to record weight, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels.

  • Bookmark:  features stroke risk factors and warning signs.

There are two ways to order materials:

Call the NINDS Clearinghouse, 1-800-352-9424, from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday.
