25th Anniversary Banner

Help Us Celebrate Our 25th anniversary in 2009 and 2010!

With one mission and one voice, National Stroke Association has been an active participant in fighting stroke in America since 1984. By designing and implementing programs that provide education and support to carry on after a stroke, to support stroke research and to help prevent strokes across the country, National Stroke Association has been integral in continuing the fight against stroke for 25 years!

Many significant stroke milestones have taken place during the past 25 years. The 1980s brought imaging that has improved stroke diagnosis alongside an offical presidential proclamation of National Stroke Awareness Month. In 1996, the FDA approved tPA, the first clot-buster drug for stroke, and National Stroke Association launched Stroke Center Network. Since before 2000, the FAST acronym and test for recognizing and responding to stroke symptoms has helped people understand that stroke is an emergency. And, in 2001, StrokeSmart Magazine, which reaches more than 250,000 people nationwide, was launched! Read more about 25 years of stroke milestones by visiting www.stroke.org/25thmilestones.

We are proud to commemorate how we, with the help of our volunteers and advocates across the world, have been able to make an impact on reducing the incidence and impact of stroke. Join us for another 25 years!

Make Your Voice A Part of Ours!

Spreading awareness about stroke is very important at a grass roots level. The only way more progress will be made is for more people to understand the impact of stroke. We not only want you to be part of our voice, but we want to make it easy.

The next 25 years of success depend more than ever on spreading awareness and raising funds that help National Stroke Association continue its programs and educational efforts within stroke. To encourage more activism and awareness around stroke, National Stroke Association has drawn upon the expertise of volunteers and expert fundraisers to design a free and downloadable Awareness Event Toolbox that includes everything you need to coordinate an awareness fundraiser! Choose from  12 ideas for activities and get tips for how to market and promote your event.

Check out the event selection now by visiting www.stroke.org/eventtoolbox.  We hope you will be inspired to hold more stroke awareness events than ever!

Send feedback about an awareness or fundraising event to National Stroke Association at brainalert@stroke.org.

On the past 25 years…

"I am thankful that there is an organization that feels passionate about helping stroke survivors, not only in the acute phase of stroke management but also with their recovery and rehabilitation needs. National Stroke Association is clearly committed to helping us stroke survivors and family members through out our rehabilitation journey"

— Judi Johnson, RN, stroke survivor and member of National Stroke Association’s Rehabilitation Advisory Board

On the next 25 years…

"There needs to be more in the public about pediatric stroke awareness so parents, schools, doctors, etc know of this issue. National Stroke Association is certainly the group to be spearheading this movement with the public and Congress."

— Thomas Jones, father to and caregiver for Brady, who suffered a stroke in the second grade
