Ten Ways to Meet Your Stroke Education Needs

National Stroke Association is excited to announce completion of 10 accredited online Stroke Nurse Education Modules! These 10 distinct educational programs are designed to improve stroke patient care and outcomes by providing evidenced-based and best-practice nursing education across the stroke care continuum.

The Modules are the easy and affordable answer for your stroke team members to meet The Joint Commission's requirements for continuing education. Learn everything from Stroke 101: Anatomy and Physiology to Interpreting Stroke Imaging and Other Diagnostics to Rehabilitation Nursing for Stroke. The modules are ideal for those who are new to stroke as well as seasoned providers committed to keeping their stroke knowledge and practice up-to-date.

Click here or visit www.stroke.org/strokenurse for a full listing of the online modules and to start educating yourself right now!

Free and Discounted Access! In addition to free and discounted access to the modules, members of National Stroke Association’s three professional memberships receive a wide variety of valuable benefits. To learn more about which professional membership program might be a good fit for you or your organization, contact Linda at lkuhrt@stroke.org or (303) 754-0934.

Our NYC Marathon Team Rocks!

ING New York Marathon

National Stroke Association’s amazing NYC Marathon Team kicked off November with a bang, each running 26.2 miles for stroke on November 1 and raising funds for the organization over the past several months. Our team included stroke survivors, caregivers, family members of survivors, healthcare professionals who treat stroke, and one of our very own staff members. Read the team’s personal and touching stories by visiting www.stroke.org/nymarathon — their support for stroke has made this an event to remember in 2009. Interested in running on our 2010 marathon team? Contact Carol at cgriffin@stroke.org or (303) 754-0917.

Support Caregivers During November

This November, National Stroke Association is celebrating National Family Caregivers Month, a time to thank, support, educate and empower family caregivers. This year, along with the National Family Caregivers Association (NFCA), we encourage caregivers to advocate for themselves and those they care for by actively speaking up about protecting the health and safety of loved ones and themselves. Estimates show than more than 75% of caregivers need respite – a break or assistance – of some kind. Following are several resources to help easily answer everyday stroke recovery questions and assist with caregiving tasks, so everyone achieve a healthy balance in their daily lives.
