Five years ago, I had a stroke. I was fortunate enough to make a strong recovery with the help of the professionals at Northside Hospital (if you have to have a stroke, have it at a location near Northside). My wife was pregnant at the time and she was very worried for me and for the future of our family. I, of course, worried about her and her future responsibilities. She was going to have her hands full with a newborn and I did not want to be a burden to her. What I wanted was to be a help to her and the best father I could be to our daughter. Thankfully, all goes well these days. I'm healthy with very few health issues related to the stroke, and I have been able to assume the role of father in our family and help my dear wife. And now that I've made it past the 5-year anniversary of my stroke, the odds are in our favor that our family will be together for a long time.
