Although I have run 5 marathons, there is one marathon I always wanted to run but haven't had the chance to run yet; The ING New York City Marathon. This year I will get the chance to run the NYC marathon with the National Stroke Association team.
Stroke awareness became important to me when one of my best friends (Allison Bradley) suffered a stroke in February of this year at the age of 27. We had always planned to run the New York City Marathon together and I am happy to say we will still be running the marathon together as part of the NSA team! Allison has showed me and many others what it's like to stay strong and never give up.
Allison ran her first marathon with me in 2011, and I am fortunate and happy to have her by my side in 2012 during her second marathon.
I am running this in honor of my friend Allison Bradley, and I hope to raise awareness that a stroke can happen at any age to anyone.
