2012 NYC Marathon Campaign

I am looking to raise general stroke awareness by running the NYC Marathon and raising funds for The National Stroke Association. The likelihood of having a stroke can be greatly minimized with improved insight into a preventative lifestyle and the recognition of early signs so as to receive immediate attention. This is a personal endeavor, many immediate family members have suffered from stroke. I have witnessed first hand how someone can be joyful and full of life one moment and left motionless and depressed, left dealing with the onset of its debilitating aftermath and lifelong physical re-training. When I realized that the National Stroke Association was seeking fundraisers for their NYC 2012 marathon team, I immediately sought to become a member - but it was too late. It wasn't until a couple of months had passed that an email notified me that additional spaces had been granted and that I was eligible. I feel fortunate that this opportunity to help raise funds has presented itself; and though terrified at the task of running a marathon, it will be dedicated to those who can't run due to stroke effects that will drive me to that finish line. I ask you to join me in this cause, this effort, and to donate whatever amount you see fit to bring stroke prevention to a broader level of understanding and one step closer to encouraging the next high risk individual to take actions to prevent a potential stroke.
