On February 23, 2012 I woke up and started my day like every other day getting ready for work until I fell to the ground and lost complete functionality of my left side. I had suffered a stroke at the age of 27. Luckily, I was able to reach my cell phone and call 911 to get help fast. The days after my stroke I remember being scared wondering if I be able to regain completely functionality of my left side. After working with PT and OT I have not only regained most of my functionality, but I'm running again.
In addition to running this marathon I have another exciting milestone in my life coming up; I'm getting married! I am thankful each day that I got help, and got help FAST; I credit my doctors with recognizing my signs and saving my life. Thanks to them I will be walking down the aisle the way I have always envisioned!
I turned to running years ago as a way to challenge myself and keep in shape. I ran my first marathon last year and look forward to running NYC marathon this year as part of the New York City Marathon Stroke Challenge team. I chose to run with the stroke team to increase stroke awareness and educate people that strokes can happen to anyone at any age.
