Significant knowledge and practice gaps exist across the continuum of stroke care. Stroke is highly preventable, yet nearly 800,000 strokes occur each year. Although effective treatments exist that could benefit up to 40 percent of stroke patients, fewer than 10 percent of stroke patients actually receive these treatments.
Controversy is a hallmark of new ideas in medicine. As an education strategy, the identification and exploration of controversial topics enables an effective debate about unresolved issues, resulting in greater consensus supported by evidence-based medicine and expert opinion. This webinar will include the following rehabilitation topics: intensity versus quality, timing of therapeutic intervention and delivery method of therapy.
This webinar is designed for physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, rehabilitation nurses, psychologists, social workers and case managers. The audience may also include other stroke team members.
To raise awareness of clinicians surrounding rehabilitative therapies that take into consideration the timing, duration and intensity of therapy. As a result of this activity, the participant should be better able to:
- Debate the intensity of activities versus quality of performance
- Discuss the timing of therapeutic intervention
- Describe delivery methods of therapy
