National Stroke Association’s Educational Activities

• Acute Stroke Treatment: New Evidence and Opportunities, open to all audiences for FREE; archived version available now. This one-hour webcast, presented by experts in neurology, emergency medicine and interventional neuroradiology, discusses evidence-based treatment options for acute stroke.

• Internet Point of Care (IPoC), with CME (Accreditation expired 3/1/11).
  IPoC is self directed, online learning by physicians on topics relevant to their clinical practice. Accredited for a half (0.5) CME. Click for more information and access.

• Stroke: Clinical Updates, open to all audiences for FREE as a professional monograph. 
  This professional monograph uses case studies to present evidence-based treatment options for acute stroke.

• Stroke Nurse Education Modules, available now for all audiences (SCN members received first 30 module uses for free followed by unlimited access for $10 each, SRN members receive unlimited access for $10 per module). These accredited online modules are ideal for those new to stroke as well as seasoned stroke care providers committed to keeping their stroke knowledge and practice up-to-date.  Modules are currently available at www.stroke.org/strokenurse. Each module is accredited for 1.5 CEs.
• NIHSS Stroke Scale Training and Testing, available now FREE to all audiences. Support your stroke team and other hospital staff to become proficient at administering the NIHSS using the most user-friendly online training and testing system available. Visit www.stroke.org/nihss for training, testing, instant test results, CEUs and a certificate of completion.
• Stroke Rapid Response™, available now for $20 to all audiences. This online program educates EMTs, paramedics, first responders and dispatchers important information about their invaluable roles in stroke treatment and outcomes. Accredited for .2 CEUs.

Acute Stroke Presentations are available for immediate access below. Current topics include endovascular therapy, emergent care and telemedicine.

• Endovascular Management of Acute Ischemic Stroke, presented November 2008 by Tim Malisch, MD, of Alexian Brothers Medical Center.
• Integration of Prehospital and Emergent Hospital Care, presented October 2008 by R. Jason Thurman, MD, of Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
• Implementation of Telemedicine for an Effective Stroke Program, presented October 2008 by Colin T. McDonald, MD, of Specialists on Call.

• Training Campus.com This e-learning resource offers an array of educational activities, learning aids and accreditation including the Modified Rankin Scale and CNS programming.  
• National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS)
  Professionals may purchase the training DVDs for the NIH Stroke Scale.
• Stroke Training and Awareness Resources (STARS)
  This e-learning resource, based in Scotland, provides a learning tool for health and social care staff to enable them to become more knowledgeable and skillful in the challenging area of stroke care.
• Nurses’ Acute Stroke CE Program
  This course includes answers to basic questions about Acute Stroke for nurses and other health professionals.  Available courses also present acute stroke protocols for emergency departments.
