Gil & Dawn Kinnunen

Two days prior to her 42nd birthday, Dawn survived a major stroke. Because she and her husband Gil were aware of the symptoms of stroke, Dawn received immediate care and has been able to make amazing recoveries. Convincing her husband to come out of running retirement, Dawn began running and the couple completed their first marathon in 2005. Shortly thereafter, Gil experienced a tendon injury leaving him relearning how to walk. Says Gil, "eleven years after a disabling stroke and three years after a disabling injury, we are ready to see if our 53- and 63-year-old bodies can complete another marathon for a worthy cause." After completing the marathon, Gil and Dawn are looking forward to vacationing in New York City and catching a show on Broadway.
