Caregiver and Family

The story I am going to share is about my own mother. She called me one day and I noticed that her speech was slurred and that she sounded confused. I knew that my mother did not drink and that she had recently been diagnosed with hypertension. I drove over to her house not knowing how I should feel. It is hard when you try to care for someone that you love. I had already called the ambulance, and they were en route to meet me there. We found my mother awake, very confused, with a blood pressure of 200 / 110, speech slurred, unable to move her left side or to lift her left arm, her face drooped, and she was unable to answer our questions coherently. Due to the quick action of all of us, she was taken immediately to the ER, treated per stoke protocol, and had no residual. Her blood pressure now remains very well controlled with medication through the efforts of her physician, Dr. Roberta Bogaev, and through proper diet and exercise. This is story that I chose to share and it is one that really hit home....
