Maggie & Matthew M.

Caregiver & Family

Matt and Maggie M. are my two children. They were 11 and 14 when I had my stroke. In addition to their father (my husband) who gave unconditional support and encouragement for my rehabilitation, I know that without the support and encouragement that these two children provided to me, that I would not be where I am today! Early in my rehab days, Matt took me out to play golf on a spring day despite the fact my left side was very weak. Maggie helped dress me for my first day back at the office so I would not exhaust myself trying to pull on my clothes! Both Maggie and Matt have encouraged me to do what others think is impossible‐pushing me along to run my first marathon and encouraging me to play soccer. I nominate them as I would like to see further support provided to children when a parent suffers a stroke. Despite their encouragement, they had to accommodate their lives around mine and live through a challenging and life changing serious medical event of a family member.
