Survivor
My sister, Marie, had a stroke in September 2009. Her stroke came out of the blue in that Marie was very physically fit, had never smoked cigarettes and has always led a very active, healthy lifestyle. Marie is the mother of two boys, ages 13 and 11. Her one wish was to be able to drive a car again so that she would be able to take her boys to school and their activities. While she still does not have use of her right arm, hand or leg, this past November, Marie passed her driving test and now has the independence to take her boys to their activities and to do her own shopping. Marie is a fighter and tackles the challenges that face her everyday. She is determined to get back as much of her life prior to stroke as she possibly can. Marie is a beautiful human being, and she has been an inspiration to her family and friends.
