Stacy G.  Survivor Stacy G. would be the perfect representative of the Faces of Stroke in a young person. She was 21 when she suffered a massive stroke in April 2003. In spite of the traumatic change in her life, Stacy has paved a new path for herself as a survivor of stroke, not a victim. A talented artist in her junior year of college when stroke entered her life, Stacy returned to college, graduated, and continues to produce amazing art. Incredibly outspoken, Stacy is an advocate for others who have suffered a brain injury and shares her story with undergraduates at her alma mater. She is an active member of the local stroke support group. She volunteers in elementary classrooms helping students illustrate the stories they write. She maintained her sense of humor and love of life through months of intensive care and rehabilitation. Very little gets between her and what she wants to accomplish. She is a beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She has taught everyone who loves her valuable life lessons. She is the perfect example of the fact that stroke can hit anyone, at any age, at any time, anywhere. |
