Survivor
The Day of My Stroke
This story is about a woman who had a stroke. Even though it was over five years ago, I am still struggling to get my life back in order. It is hard and people don't understand the changes one goes through after experiencing a devastating situation
On June 6, 2006, I came home from work and everything seemed normal. Soon after I arrived home and ate a teriyaki flavored piece of chicken, I started feeling sick. I was vomiting uncontrollably and did not realize the chicken was lased with sodium. Later that evening I was going to the bathroom and felt a blow to my head and fell; I was experiencing a stroke.
As a result from the stroke, I could not walk. I entered the hospital, with assistance and was given an MRI and was confirmed I had a stroke and some mini strokes prior. I had out of control blood pressure that I was unaware of.
I stayed in the hospital two weeks and was transferred to rehabilitation hospital for two more weeks.
I was released after a month, but it is a long uphill battle that I am still fighting.
