Magdalena C.  Survivor Never imagined...It all started at work. I was walking down some stairs and slipped and injured my knee. Two years later after failed therapy and no longer being able to endure the pain, I was faced with the fear of having knee surgery. It was May 23, 2012 and I was laying in bed watching t.v. I went to pick up my phone and felt my arm numb and my actions by my hand were delayed in a sense. I felt like I had swallowed a spoonful of salt within a few seconds. I immediately thought something was wrong and got up to go the kitchen and noticed I had blind spots in my vision at which point I felt completely different. I thought taking a shower might help me feel better but I couldn't remember how to turn the water on!! I then knew something was wrong but when I tried telling my sister I kept saying "seizure" and nothing I said was making any sense. I couldn't even remember that I had a 2 year old son. Turns out I was having a stroke and the cause of it was most likely birth control and an atrial septum defect in my heart. I always thought I was a healthy as any human could be. Since then I have had another stroke but the ASD was patched up, but I am still recovering from some vision loss and terrible migraines. I thank God I'm still alive to enjoy my son and watch him grow up BECAUSE I AM ONLY 24 YEARS OLD!!! |
