Survivor
Wes is a 39-year-old male stroke survivor. More than that, he is an inspiration to so many others. While in college, he suffered a brainstem stroke at age 27 which left him confined to a wheelchair yet determined to live his life to the fullest. Wes states, "I see whatever I've had to deal with as the price of admission." Ten years later, he returned to college, accepting countless challenges: relying on public transportation to get him to school on time, hoping for patience from his peers and professors as he speaks with severe dysarthria and the endless hours of typing lengthy assignments one keystroke at a time. Wes conquered college earning himself two bachelor's degrees and a desire to pursue additional education. Despite the fact that his life and recreational sports career were interrupted by his stroke, Wes approaches life with a smile and a positive attitude, expecting no sympathy or special privileges.
