Fidencio N.

Survivor

Fidencio, a 48-year-old father of three, is a great illustration of the benefits of getting to the hospital immediately. He had a major clot in his carotid artery, stopping blood flow to the right side of his brain. Without treatment, he almost certainly would have died or become severely disabled. He was taken to Loyola University Hospital where he received IV tPA and emergency endovascular surgery to break up and remove the clot. The rapid treatment restored blood flow in time to prevent brain damage to Fidencio, who visited the ER three days later after making a full recovery.
