Support Group Leader
Shaunna is an outstanding clinician who works daily with patients and families who have been affected by stroke. She provides ongoing education, understanding and compassion as patients and families learn to function. Not only does she lead the Bronson Stroke Survivor Support Group, which she initiated, she works with other community support groups as an educator. Her approach to stroke care is comprehensive, as she sees patients who have been in the hospital before they leave, so as to build a relationship with the family and patient. Shaunna takes part in numerous community events and administers the Bronson Online Stroke Risk Assessment to help prevent stroke from happening. Not only is it the breadth of activities she takes part in, it is the depth of her caring and compassion that helps her build relationships with patients and the physicians that treat them. Dean Kindler, MD, Executive Medical Director for Medical Neurosciences at Bronson says, "Shaunna is incredibly kind, compassionate and has a unique touch with patients. She is always willing to go the extra mile." From my perspective, Shaunna has advanced the care of stroke patients in our community with her education, compassion and the support she provides patients. She is an excellent example of the effect of being educated on the warning signs of stroke, and how support groups can benefit the patient and the family. In planning Stroke Month events, Shaunna always has great ideas and the follow through to make them happen. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.
