Avi G.  Survivor Avi G. is a remarkable advocate of aphasia awareness, as well as driven to help people with stroke and other forms of physical and cognitive disabilities to enjoy the outdoors. For example, Avi volunteers for Aphasia Awareness Training for Emergency Responders at many area hospitals through the National Aphasia Association. Also, he has assisted the project manager with community outreach to police, firefighters and EMTs in New York and New Jersey. He participated in training sessions and worked on the creation of curriculum and materials used in their programs. Avi was featured in a cover story for the Jewish Standard newspaper, "Got _______? Aphasia: At a Loss for Words" by Miryam Z. Wahrman, Science Correspondent, on August 13, 2010. On Aug 11, 2010, at the Adler Aphasia Center, he was in "Guys and Dolls," and he played Arvide Abernathy for an audience of 500 people. He is also starting a non-profit organization that encourages outdoor activities for disabled people. |
