Survivor
On May 1, 2008, at the age of 40, I suffered a post-operative stroke to repair a mid-cerebral brain aneurysm. While the surgery was successful (the aneurysms was removed), the repaired artery collapsed during recovery. The initial diagnosis was a severe stroke that affected my right side. I have regained most of the use of my right side, but the residual affects have been more of a mental/neurological nature. I still deal with aphasia type issues. I have trouble putting numbers and letters on paper and difficulty following written direction (recipes, patterns, etc).
I am honored to belong to a local stroke support group at the hospital that helped with my rehab. The National Stroke Association site has been such a blessing to me. It has helped me to understand my limitations - they even have names - (I am not crazy..yeah!!) - and that I am not the only one. Thank you for providing the avenues to connect with others and to help us work through the results of strokes. I am blessed!
