I am a married thirty-nine year old mother of two young boys (six years and four years), who is approaching my 25 year anniversary since having a stroke at 15 years old.  The cause of my stroke was believed to be from a brain hemorrhage due to the presence of an AVM (arteriovenous malformations in my brain). I survived brain surgery, and endured several years of physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. Today, I live with the residual effects of being a hemiparesis (have weakness on the right side of my body) but am fortunate to only struggle with limited use of my right hand and numbness of my right side. I am running my first marathon as a part of the National Stroke Association team, and am on the Board of Councilors for USC's Biokinesiology and Physical Therapy Division as a stroke advocate.

Recovering from a stroke is a lifelong journey and I have made it one of my life's missions to be a positive role model for those affected by stroke.
