Joan M. ![]() Joan Survivor In May 2009, I had my first small ischemic stroke. Two weeks later I had a second stroke, which the hospital called an aspirin failure. I received great hospital care. The strokes happened in the night and in the small arteries. Luckily, I have great insurance because of my husband's work. I was in a day rehabilitation program at the hospital. I had a relapse in August of that same year, because of migraines. I have continued weakness in my left leg, vision loss and aphasia. The only reason they can find for the cause of the strokes is high cholesterol. To help manage risk of another stroke, I've changed my diet, lost 15 pounds and take a statin and antiplatelet every day. These actions have brought down the cholesterol numbers and kept me from having another stroke. I get better every day. I am active in two stroke support groups, one of which is online. » Learn more about the connection between atherosclerosis and cholesterol to stroke. |
