Rachel H. ![]() Survivor At the age of 33, I was a wife to a beloved husband and a mother of two beautiful young children. I was submerged in my profession as a paralegal. I was training with my husband for my first half marathon. Then, on October 1, 2009, I suffered my stroke. In an instant, I went from being very active and independent, to not being able to see or walk and was dependent upon others to make it through the days. I went through months of rehab and with many prayers, support from my family and dear friends, and a very special Christmas wish from my daughter, I started walking just days before Christmas. Now after just 15 months of my survival, I have realized the true meaning of a survivor. Like many others, I am a changed person and my survival is a trophy that will forever shine amongst my family. And I did it, a year from my stroke, I competed and completed my first half marathon! Amen. |
