Survivor
I have trained in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo for many years, and in February 2009 I was kicked in the back of the neck by a training partner. I blacked out briefly, and was able to continue training. Three weeks later I suffered a stroke in my sleep and lost feeling on my right side. I was in top physical shape and never smoked, used drugs, or drank alcohol. One week after the stroke, I ran a mile on a treadmill and began attending classes at my Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school. Within a month, I was on the mat training again. Since my strength was compromised, I began focusing on technique and have continued to learn and advance my Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
