Survivor
As a young and vibrant 24 year old outdoor recreation professional working for the Army, I was an active climber, snowboarder, and backpacker to name just a few of the activities I thrived in. My life was changed forever on February 10, 2006, when I suffered a near fatal stroke. If not for an excellent team in the operating room that Saturday morning, I probably would not be alive today.
After a grueling nine month recovery and re-learning the ability to walk, talk, and use my right side functionally, I returned to my position as a recreation programmer/trip leader. Within one year I was snowboarding and climbing again (with a helmet of course). I have since been promoted to Activity Manager, and still lead a trip here and there.
Recovery is possible with a positive attitude and the right mindset. NEVER GIVE UP!
