Survivor

Almost 12 years, ago I had a thrombotic stroke affecting my left side. During my recovery, I found that I wanted as much information as possible about my stroke, especially about avoiding a "repeat performance." My first opportunity to obtain this information came from a pamphlet from the National Stroke Association discussing stroke. It mentioned "emotional lability" which helped me understand what was happening to me as I was experiencing this.

My need for more information lead me to Stroke Smart, fact sheets, books, and eventually to stroke support groups and stroke studies in New Jersey. Because of my gratitude towards my therapists, I returned to my in-patient facility to volunteer twice a week to transport patients, and to share my recovery experience to help them through the process.
