Survivor I'm currently 24 years old, and had a stroke four years ago when I was on a run with the Northeastern Club Soccer Team, losing most of the function in the right half of my body as well as coordination, balance, and some motor skills. I was determined to finish college and regain a normal life, and after months of rehabilitation, I learned how to walk, run, and write again. I was able to return to soccer the following season. Since my stroke, I have been very active, talking at hospitals, colleges, etc. about the warning signs of stroke, and that it can happen to anyone at any age. Through my mission of stroke awareness, I joined Tedy Bruschi's Marathon Team, an affiliate of the American Heart Association (Bruschi of the Patriots had a similar stroke and his team raises awareness and funds for stroke), and will compete my fourth Boston Marathon this April. My mission is to raise aawareness and act as a sign of hope for those who have had gone through a stroke. |
