Virginia C.  Survivor No one in the house knew why I was walking into walls, nor could they make out why I was jabbering like a baby. In February 2006, I suffered a severe brain injury that left me in a coma for some time. After awakening, I had no movement in my limbs, was in a wheelchair, had no speech, tunnel vision,etc. Also, I happened to be a mom of two small children. At a rehabilitation center in Atlanta, Georgia, I was assigned all types of therapy that I now know was so very important to my recovery. Another very important factor in recovery is the support of family and friends. I am so grateful to have had my two sisters come to Atlanta, from Kansas City, Missouri to help me at such a crucial time in my life. Not only my life, but my children's lives as well. All of my therapists became family to me, because I knew that their main objective was to help me regain my life back. Even though I may never work a full time job again, I am ever so grateful for being alive. |
