Suzie V. ![]() Suzie Survivor I was 35 when I had my stroke, with a ten-month-old baby and a six-year-old at home. I was hit with a dissection of my carotid artery, which happened in my doctors office. I was then rushed to the hospital. I spent one week in ICU, and another week trying to figure out what had happened to me. Once the doctors figured out the cause, I was moved to a rehab hospital for another two weeks, which felt like a lifetime. I couldn't walk, and had no use of my left side. My stroke was massive. I just knew that I had to be home by my daughter's first birthday. Finally, I learned to walk with a cane and how to feed and dress myself. Then I had my homecoming at last! I learned how to diaper my baby and lift her out of her crib one handed. I was always thanking God that I was alive to take care of my family. With A LOT of love and support from my family and friends, I was able to move on. But even so, after eight years, I still don't have use of my arm, and walk with a limp. I'm back to work two days a week and am volunteering at my daughter's school. I am just trying to keep my head up, and look at the bright side. I am blessed, and continue to hope and pray for healing to enjoy the rest of my life. |
