Kim M.  Kim Survivor I was 42 years old, had been playing two games of soccer every Sunday for nine months, and I've ridden my bike in the ms150 from Houston to Austin four times. On November 14, 2007, I was at work and just had two employees quit... I went to the bathroom and had a coughing attack, then I noticed my left arm felt like it was asleep. I went back to my office however, and thankfully my co-worker came in to see if I was okay. She thought I was getting sick in the restroom. I said I was okay, but she then called my mom after saying, "you can be mad at me later, but there's something wrong with you." My mom came up to work, and followed me around trying to convince me to go to the ER. My mom finally asked me to smile, and realized it was crooked... She determined that I was having a stroke, and asked my co-worker Alison to call 911. An ambulance came and took me to the stroke hospital. They administered the TPA and it didn't work, so they had to use the merci L6 to roto-root the clot out of the right side of my brain. Heart surgery, many hours of PT, and countless other non-traditional therapies later, I'm living a great life! I am working full time, riding my bike, and traveling! I even rode my bike to the top of Col de Romme during the 2009 Tour de France! |
