Survivor
I had a brain stem stroke with locked-in syndrome on November 14, 2001, at age 31. I spent five and a half months in various hospitals paralyzed from the neck down. After many years of rehabilitation, I am walking, talking, eating, and living on my own. I am also a full time student, mother of two, sister, friend, advocate, and more. In December of this year I will be graduating with my Bachelor's Degree in human services, and in August of 2012, I will begin graduate school to get my Master's Degree in social work. By the year 2014, I plan to be teaching at community college and to be a social worker somewhere in a clinical setting.
