I had a massive, out of the blue, right brain stroke in NYC on November 8, 2007 which paralyzed my left side. I was with someone I had just met who called 911, so I was in a hospital soon after the stroke. My neurologist said he never saw someone survive with such a large clot. I was in good shape, swimming a lot and doing yoga, so the cause was family history. I am very lucky i know, but was in two hospitals and a nursing home following the stroke. I got released to my NYC apartment and had to pay for round-the clock care, which eventually drained all my savings and retirement.

In March 2009 I moved to western New Jersey, where I owned a weekend house. Here I have continued to recover, but still mostly use a cane and my left arm is mostly paralyzed. I am doing local driving, and began work again after labor day selling real estate.
