Melissa P. ![]() Melissa Survivor I was 35 years old when I collapsed from a stroke which affected my left side. Because of my age, it took doctors three days to do an MRI scan that located the brain swelling and bleeding caused by the clot. When I came to, I was paralyzed on my left side from the neck down. I spent two grueling weeks in the hospital, re-learning how to read, tell time, and move. I spent another six weeks at home, being babysat by my father, while occupational and physical therapists came to my house and worked with me. I am proud to say, I've been back to work full time since January 2008, and just last month for my 39th birthday, attempted snowboarding. I'm so grateful for the stroke support group I attend, and the Strokesmart magazine that I've learned very valuable information from. I'm still not 100%, but I'm not letting that stop me from trying to live life to the fullest! |
