In the fall of 2009, I experienced numbness in the left side of my face, left arm, and leg. I had a slight facial droop, with occasional droop at the edge of the left side of my mouth. I experienced weakness in my left hand and leg, and extreme fatigue after short periods of walking. I was diagnosed with a right pontine infraction. Since that time, I have lost fifteen pounds, work to control my cholesterol, exercise frequently, and attempt to maintain a positive attitude. I am on Aggrenox, and will continue this for the rest of my life time. I did have a period of repeated TIAs in May 2010, but these have resolved. In May, I took a leave of absence for six weeks from work. I work over 45 hours weekly in an administrative role.

With a stroke, you experience a loss for yourself, living with an inner fear of loss of function. I had to slowly, one-half mile at a time, regain my strength and take control of my life. I am a nurse, and I am a stroke survivor.
