I have always been passionate about getting the word out about stroke awareness and prevention. As a Black American, I am doing everything I can to lower my risk of having a stroke, especially since both my grandparents died as a result of strokes. I will be teaching several classes on stroke awareness and prevention at the community college in a couple of weeks, and hopefully again in the spring. When I worked on the stroke unit, it concerned me that families of stroke survivors had very limited information on signs of a stroke, or the things to do to decrease the risk of having a recurrent stroke and what to do for their own safety. There is unfortunately still a lot of work that needs to be done.
