Healthcare Professional & Survivor
I am an occupational therapist (OT) who specialized in stroke rehab and continued my education by having a stroke in 2004. A small army of therapists, friends and family made it possible for me to live alone in my own home. Problem solving never ends because I walk with a leg brace and cane, have impaired balance, regained only partial use of my hemiplegic hand, and have slurred speech and trouble finding words when I'm tired or stressed.
Being a stroke survivor, an OT and a caregiver has given me a mission to share what seeing all three perspectives has taught me. Four months ago I joined a small community of stroke survivors who blog. I enjoy reading about how other stroke survivors deal with daily challenges. Reading and responding to comments on my blog at homeafterstroke.blogspot.com makes it easier for me to deal with problems I didn't learn about as an OT.
