Best Shape of My Life
I'd had a recent workup to include aortic and carotid study, and all came back normal. I was cycling five miles a day, feeling great, then BAM—I suffered a stroke! The only risk factor I had was taking birth control pills and being
in my early forties. I was in the best shape of my life, active and strong.
Then it all came crashing down that day.
On November 19, 2008 my husband and I were visiting El Paso, Texas, recruiting for Covenant Medical Center. I felt a ringing in my ear, a loud noise in my right ear, and heat up my neck to my brain. I suddenly collapsed in a room full of emergency medicine physicians—one of them was my husband.
I could not speak or move. I could hear but could not communicate. I was rushed to the hospital and given thrombolytics. I have recovered but now have seizures induced by loud noises and strobe and flourescent lights.
