Vincent T. ![]() Vince Survivor A Winnable ChallengeMy name is Vince. I was 34 years old when I suffered my stroke in Charleston SC. My Neurosurgeon classified it as a hemorrhagic stroke. A artery burst on the right side of my brain near the brain stem. That was 3 years ago. Part of me is angry because it happened. It turned everyday tasks into a challenge. The Neurosurgeon called my friend Daphne after I got to the hospital and told her I wasn't going to make it. She is the mother of my child. I am a very, very proud parent of an 11 year old. I was surrounded by friends and family and didn't even realize it. Everyone was supportive. I was in the hospital for a month and admitted to an inpatient rehab facility thereafter. Then I moved NJ for about 8 months with my parents, then back to Charleston, then to Newnan GA to be physically closer with my boy. My friends and family say they can see a positive difference all around considering what happened. I credit the guy upstairs with my recovery. It may be a slow process, but it is happening. I've been in GA for 15 months and I am enjoying every minute. Although some things are difficult, overall, I am lucky, very lucky to be here. I am living proof that surviving a stroke is a winnable challenge for most of us. Dr. Cuddy, Erin and Paul, thank you for getting my survival started so I can enjoy the next 100 years!!! |
