Paul in a therapy session.
|
I am 44 years old, a former Marine, a police officer and a SWAT entry
team operator. In March 2010, I was in the gym at work working on advanced
ground fighting techniques and suffered a severe stroke. I was in top shape and
have been all my life. I wrestled for 16 years, was in the Marine Corp for 9
years and have been a police officer for 15 1/2 years. Thanks to my level of
physical fitness, I was able to get back on my feet fairly quickly. However, I was
sidetracked by health insurance, which only allowed 20 physical therapy visits per incident. I am now back in therapy, but frustrated by my physical condition and
the red tape of the healthcare system. Being young and completely surprised that this could happen to
me, I look forward to the opportunity to help others and/or raise awareness
about stroke. |
