Stroke Survivor
Before I
was twenty years old, I had survived three strokes. These strokes completely
changed my life, but it was being a stroke survivor that has completely changed
me. I couldn't help that I had the strokes, but I did have a hand in what I did
after, and that is what I reflect on most often. It started with my first steps
in rehabilitation and my journey has taken off from there. I took all the grief
of what I had lost and channeled that into helping others never have to go
through the same thing. Through raising money for research, lobbying congress,
and sharing my story, I hope that someday, a girl just like me will get the proper
treatment before she has to go through the pain of having a stroke. It is with
that wish that I strive everyday to help myself and others affected by stroke
to not only survive, but thrive. I hope to take these efforts to the next level
by representing the pediatric stroke survivor crowd in Faces of Stroke 2011.
