My Father: A Strong Man

My father, a 58 year old stroke survivor is one of the strongest men I know and I'd like to share my story with you.

We were just like any normal family, we laughed, we loved and we lived. Then stroke hit. It was on December 27th, 2012, what a not-so-perfect way to end my Christmas holiday from school.

My father went to work that day and I went to school. He came home from work and ate some chicken noodle soup and sat down to watch a Duke football game, oh how he loved Duke. Anyways, around 9pm my mom and I noticed his speech slurring, we didn't think anything about it and went to bed while my father stayed up to finish watching his football game. I awoke around 11pm to the sound of my mom screaming, the stroke was attacking him. My uncle came over and we called the ambulance. I seemed to be the only one who knew what was going on. After what felt like forever, the ambulance arrived at my house and took my dad's vitals. Every number they could possibly check was good, this seemed suspicious. When we got to the hospital the doctors confirmed our fears, stroke it was. The neuro-surgeons rushed him to surgery because they told us that they could get the blood clot out, an hour later the doctors donned us with even more bad news, and the blood clot was too large to operate on.

Fast-forward a year and some change, this is where we are now. Everyone stressed out, my father fighting to regain strength and control of his left side. But no matter what happens, even two months of staying in the hospital, couldn't keep us from laughing, loving and still living.
