My son Jude Ortiz born 9/2/08 suffered a massive in utero stroke. When he was born we were told he looked happy, and healthy. We didn't suspect the stroke actually caused damage until he had a grand mal seizure at 3 months. Since that time we have entered a world of feeding tubes, therapy, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and more. Due to his frequent hospital stays my daughter Emily lites was inspired to help other children in similar situations. Emily created the non profit charity Emily's Smile Boxes. She provies boxes full of toys, games, crayons, and more to children, and their siblings in the hospital. Inside she puts a postcard spreading awareness about childhood strokes. To date she and her family have dropped off more than 2000 boxes, and shipped numerous boxes nationwide.
